Strengthening Voice Through Service and Leadership
The Afghan Bridges of Belonging Initiative is guided by a clear principle: our community moves forward when experience and emerging leadership come together in service of a shared future.
A constructive meeting took place between Dr. Sayed Hassan Hussaini (Akhlaq), an advisor to Laaluanar foundation and a respected scholar, religious leader and community figure, and AlahaJaan Ahrar, Independent candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District. The interaction was productive and offered valuable perspectives for the broader Afghan-American community.
During the meeting, Dr. Akhlaq recognized AlahaJaan Ahrar’s efforts, her sacrifices, and the positive example she is setting through her commitment to public service. He also acknowledged the dedication of other Afghan-American candidates running in different states, noting the value of their engagement and the importance of civic participation for the community as a whole.

Dr. Akhlaq shared thoughtful observations about Washington, D.C. He spoke about the demands of the city, the sustained effort required to build a meaningful presence, and the need for the Afghan-American community to develop a stronger and more consistent voice through greater engagement, service, and active participation.
This exchange reflects a wider message shared by many seniors, community leaders, and scholars: it is time for Afghan-Americans to step forward with confidence, contribute in their new communities, and demonstrate commitment through service, professional work, civic participation, and other constructive paths.
A message from Laaluanar to all Afghan-American candidates across the United States:
We recognize your efforts, your sacrifices, and your sincere intention to serve. Your decision to step forward helps build a stronger image for our community and expands the space for meaningful participation. We are grateful for your contribution and proud of every individual who chooses the path of service with integrity and purpose.
The Afghan Bridges of Belonging Initiative exists to support this progress, encouraging dialogue, participation, and the development of a credible and lasting community presence.
We remain focused on this mission and welcome every sincere effort that strengthens our collective voice.
