RohiyaJaan Hakimi & YusufJaan Taraki: A Heart of Compassion in Chicago’s Afghan American community
In the vibrant Afghan American community of Chicago, true heroes walk among us with open hearts and steady hands- quietly uplifting families through humility, service, and quiet sacrifices that inspire all of us to do better.
Today, Laaluanar Foundation is honored to celebrate one such remarkable family in our Timeless Afghan Mothers and Strong Women Circle: RohiyaJaan Hakimi (Rohiya Hakimi Latif) and her devoted husband YusufJaan Taraki, along with their son and daughter.

RohiyaJaan serves our city with dedication as a Physician Assistant. Yet her compassion extends far beyond the clinic walls. Together with her husband YusufJaan Taraki, RohiyaJaan is deeply known and respected not only for our Afghan American community in Chicago but across the states because RohiyaJaan is well connected and checking on the community at large. They regularly check on families, reach out with genuine care during difficult times, and step forward with practical support whenever someone is in need- whether through a thoughtful phone call, heartfelt assistance, or simply being a steady source of kindness and strength.
Their one son and one daughter are already walking in their parents’ footsteps, deeply inspired by the compassion, service, and excellence they witness every day in their home. Just as the wider Chicago community draws strength from this beautiful family, the next generation is growing up with the same beautiful spirit of giving and community.

In times of crisis, personalities like RohiyaJaan are the real Ambassador of hope and support- always there with humility and unwavering service, lovingly supported by her husband YusufJaan Taraki. Their quiet sacrifices and selfless dedication remind us all what it truly means to look out for one another and build a stronger, more united future.
Rahima Jaan and Karima Jaan, the dedicated directors of Laaluanar Foundation, are very impressed by RohiyaJaan’s grace, humility, and lifelong commitment to serving others. They see in her the true spirit of Afghan compassion that Laaluanar strives to celebrate and uplift.
Laaluanar Foundation is proud to shine a light on families like the Hakimi-Taraki family. Your humility, sacrifices, and lifelong service motivate every one of us to serve with greater compassion and purpose.
Thank you, RohiyaJaan and YusufJaan, and your wonderful children, for everything you do with such grace and love. Chicago’s Afghan American community- and communities across the states- are stronger, kinder, and brighter because of you.
